From Haydn’s “joke” quartet, filled with sheer beauty as well as wit, to Shostakovich’s emotionally wrenching eighth quartet and the lush melodies of Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in A minor, this performance will hold our hearts and heads in equal thrall.
